¡Al’s Auto Care tiene una rica historia en el negocio de reparación de automóviles que data de hace casi 80 años! La historia de mi familia es una historia clásica de un inmigrante que llega a los EE. UU. Con poco y crea una nueva vida a través del trabajo honesto y duro. La reparación de automóviles ha ayudado a mi familia a vivir el sueño americano. Le debo mucho a mi familia, a la industria y a mis clientes. Sin un cliente no somos nada! Usamos esta visión para guiar lo que hacemos todos los días.
1932 – Un inmigrante de 21 años llamado Willam Romanow (mi abuelo) abrió una estación de servicio Esso en Elizabeth NJ. Bombeó gasolina e hizo reparaciones de automóviles.
1936 – Willam se casa con Sophie y trabajan juntos en la tienda.
1937 – Tienen un bebé y lo llaman Al. La Segunda Guerra Mundial se lleva a Willam y Sophie trabaja duro para mantener vivo su sueño. Ella no solo bombeó el gas, incluso trabajó en los autos e hizo lo que pudo para mantener el negocio en marcha.
1944 – Willam regresa de la guerra. Él y Sophie expanden el negocio y contratan ayuda adicional.
1949 – Willam y Sophie deciden comprar la tienda de al lado y abrir una tienda de autopartes y una tienda de máquinas.
1955 – “Baby” Al tiene ahora 17 años y se gradúa de la escuela secundaria. Comienza a trabajar a tiempo completo en las empresas familiares, que ahora incluyen una estación de servicio, una tienda de reparación de automóviles, una tienda de partes y una tienda de máquinas automáticas.
1961 – Al y su nueva esposa Jane se hacen cargo de la estación de gasolina y el taller de reparación, mientras que Bill y Sophie dirigen la tienda de repuestos y maquinaria al lado.
1967 – Al y Jane ahora tienen tres hijos pequeños y se enfrentan a una decisión muy difícil. O quédese en Elizabeth NJ y continúe dirigiendo el exitoso negocio que los padres de Al crearon, o muévase a la “costa” y comience un nuevo taller de reparación en un pueblo pequeño que sería mucho más adecuado para criar una familia. Mudarse a una ciudad más pequeña no sería tan bueno para los negocios, pero Al nunca fue uno para recoger dinero sobre las personas. La elección fue fácil. Dejaron la ciudad de Elizabeth y se mudaron a Brick, NJ. En ese momento, muchos en la familia de Al pensaban que estaba loco … ¡este poco de tradición familiar siempre me hace pensar en el programa de televisión Green Acres! En octubre de 1967, Al compra una gasolinera de dos estaciones de reparación en Mantoloking Road y así comienza una nueva vida en Brick NJ para la familia Romanow.
1967 – 1968 – Toda la familia trabaja en la tienda, bombeando gasolina y arreglando autos … Al Sr., Jane, Al Jr., mi hermano Bryan y yo (Chris). Se enfrentan a muchos desafíos durante este período, como la crisis del gas de los años 70, la economía deficiente y la separación de la familia y los amigos, que en su mayoría aún vivían en el norte de Jersey. Trabajaron duro y el negocio creció constantemente.
Empecé a trabajar en la tienda a fines de la década de 1970 empujando una escoba, vaciando botes de basura y limpiando baños.
1980 – 1988 – En 1981 empiezo a bombear gasolina, haciendo pequeñas reparaciones de automóviles mientras trabajo después de la escuela, fines de semana y veranos. 1984 Me gradué de Brick High School y me dirigí a la universidad. Todavía trabajaba en la tienda cuando no estaba en la clase o estudiaba. 1988 Me gradué de la Universidad de Monmouth y me aceptaron en la facultad de derecho. Pero a fines del verano de 1988, me di cuenta de que trabajar con papá en Al’s Auto Care era lo que más me gustaba y me comprometí a dedicarme a la reparación de automóviles a tiempo completo.
1988 – Al decide dejar de vender gasolina y se centra en la reparación de automóviles. Sintió que los autos crecían en complejidad y la especialización era la mejor manera de servir a sus clientes.
1989 – Logré el nivel más alto de certificación de reparación de automóviles como técnico principal de ASE.
1992 – Asisto a clases en el GM / Toyota Training Center y completo un AAS en Automotive Technologies, mi tercer título universitario, con un promedio perfecto de 4.0 Grade Point, todo mientras trabajé seis días a la semana en Al’s.
1996 – Al y Jane deciden que es hora de retirarse. Sentían que las habilidades de mi gente estaban bien adaptadas para dirigir el negocio familiar y cuidar bien de sus clientes de por vida. Había sido Técnico Superior durante más de siete años en este punto y estaba más que listo para asumir el control de la tienda.
1997 – Mi esposa Kali y yo tomamos posesión completa de la tienda y el próximo capítulo en el libro de reparación de automóviles Romanow ha comenzado.
Al’s Auto Care ha proporcionado reparación automática de alta calidad en Brick, NJ desde 1967. Y la familia Romanow ha proporcionado reparaciones de automóviles en Nueva Jersey desde la década de 1930. Al’s Auto Care has a rich history in the auto repair business dating back almost 80 years! My family’s story is a classic immigrant story: arriving in the U.S. with little and building a new life through honest, hard work. Auto repair has helped my family live the American dream. I owe so much to my family, the industry, and my customers. Without a customer, we are nothing! We use this vision to guide everything we do every day.
1932 – A 21-year-old immigrant named William Romanow (my grandfather) opened an Esso gas station in Elizabeth, NJ. He pumped gasoline and did car repairs.
1936 – William marries Sophie and they work together in the store.
1937 – They have a baby and name him Al. World War II takes William away, and Sophie works hard to keep his dream alive. She not only pumped gas, but also worked on cars and did everything she could to keep the business going.
1944 – William returns from the war. He and Sophie expand the business and hire additional help.
1949 – William and Sophie decide to buy the shop next door and open an auto parts store and a machine shop.
1955 – Baby” Al is now 17 years old and graduates from high school. He begins working full-time in the family businesses, which now include a gas station, an auto repair shop, a parts store, and an automatic machine shop.
1961 – Al and his new wife Jane take over the gas station and repair shop while Bill and Sophie run the parts store and machine shop next door.
1967 – Al and Jane now have three young sons and are faced with a very tough decision. Either stay in Elizabeth NJ and continue to run the successful business that Al’s parents created, or move down the “Shore” and start a new repair shop in a small town that would be much better suited to raising a family. Moving to a smaller town would not be as good for business but Al was never one to pick money over people. The choice was easy. They left the city of Elizabeth and moved to Brick, NJ. At the time many in Al’s family thought he was crazy… this bit of family lore always makes me think of the TV show Green Acres! In October 1967 Al buys a two repair bay gas station on Mantoloking Road and so a new life in Brick, NJ begins for the Romanow family.
1967 – 1968 – The entire family works at the shop, pumping gas and fixing cars… Al Sr., Jane, Al Jr., Chris’ brother Bryan and Chris himself. They face many challenges during this period such as the 1970’s gas crisis, poor economy, and separation from the family and friends whom mostly still lived in North Jersey. They worked hard and the business steadily grew.
I started working at the store in the late 1970s pushing a broom, emptying trash cans, and cleaning bathrooms.
1980 – 1988 – In 1981, I started pumping gas and doing small car repairs while working after school, on weekends, and during the summers. In 1984, I graduated from Brick High School and headed off to college. I was still working at the shop when I wasn’t in class or studying. In 1988, I graduated from Monmouth University and was accepted into law school. But in late summer 1988, I realized that working with Dad at Al’s Auto Care was what I loved most, and I committed to working as a full-time auto repairer.
1988 – Al decided to stop selling gasoline and focus on car repairs. He felt that cars were growing in complexity and specialization was the best way to serve his customers.
1989 – I achieved the highest level of automotive repair certification as an ASE Master Technician.
1992 – I attend classes at the GM/Toyota Training Center and complete an AAS in Automotive Technologies, my third college degree, with a perfect 4.0 Grade Point average, all while working six days a week at Al’s.
1996 – Al and Jane decided it was time to retire. They felt my team’s skills were well-suited to running the family business and taking good care of their lifelong customers. I had been a Senior Technician for over seven years at this point and was more than ready to take over the shop.he shop and the next chapter in the Romanow family auto repair book has begun.
1997 – My wife Kali and I took full ownership of the shop and the next chapter in the Romanow auto repair book has begun.
Al’s Auto Care has provided high-quality auto repair in Brick, NJ since 1967. And the Romanow family has been providing auto repairs in New Jersey since the 1930s. Their dedication to customer satisfaction has created a loyal customer base for nearly 80 years.
